Delamere Charitable Trust is to celebrate the centenary of the opening of Delamere Forest School in 1921 with a Zoom Reunion on Sunday 16th January 2022 for its former pupils, staff and associates.
Originally, the long-established Manchester charity had intended to celebrate the centenary of the Cheshire school’s foundation stones being laid with a combined reunion and exhibition in May 2020. Plans had been in an advanced stage but the onset of the coronavirus pandemic forced the indefinite postponement of any form of celebration.
While the vaccination programme had offered some hope that the original plans might eventually be reinstated, the Delamere Trustees have reluctantly concluded, with the pandemic still very much around, that they needed to settle for a less ambitious celebration. So, they are preparing a special Centenary Profile to go on their website and intend to launch this new webpage at the Zoom Reunion in January. The page will contain fascinating information on the school’s long history and feature as yet unpublished video, audio and photographic material.
Invitations are being sent to those who hoped to attend the original event and others friends of Delamere will also be able to register to attend for free on the Reunion webpage of this website.
Delamere’s Chairman, Malcolm Joels explained “We would have dearly liked to have reinstated our original plans but, with the continuing need to avoid large social gatherings, we realised there was still no reasonable prospect of that being possible. A short survey revealed that the idea of a reunion still appealed to many. While a small minority still wanted to meet in-person, others were more cautious and opted for a nostalgic online get together instead. The Zoom launch and the new Centenary webpage will hopefully meet their wishes.”
